Amsterdam

Amsterdam

Good morning again after the weekend. How are you on Mondays? I feel deadly, almost like any other day of the week and. You know what Garfield and I think about Mondays.
Yesterday, Carmen, Javi and I,
 visited the city of Amsterdam, and also David and Laura joined us, so I was very happy because I like them, they play with me and there's always people at home to play with. We arrived in Amsterdam mid-morning by taking, as usual, our "special" train tickets but in the train nobody comes to ask the ticket.

Amsterdam gave me very good impression when we arrived at the station. The streets were full of people walking in all directions and we knew where we could find downtown, as we followed the larger group. I was afraid again of losing so many people, so Carmen took my hand. When we reached the center, it was full of people and the first place we saw was full of mimes dressed as different characters and taking pictures with people. What people did not know was that taking a picture with them "forced" them to give them a coin. I saw a guy with a chicken suit and I wanted to pursue him but I controlled myself.
We were walking through the center without a fixed course finding by the way many waterways and always something to take a picture with. We also saw the house of a girl named Anne Frank but I don't know who she was. Then we went to eat at a sandwich place and then we walk in search of a place called "Red Light District". I don't know what interest has this site, it was a narrow street with people in the windows that had to be very hot. In other areas of the city, I noticed a funny smell like a plant, but I could not distinguish.
Leaving there, we went in search of the poster "I amsterdam" to take some pictures there, as it was a beautiful place and had a couple of nice museums to see. The more we walked around town, more Spanish speaking we found, and I started asking myself if I was in Amsterdam or in Madrid.
Finally we walked back to the station and took the train back to Eindhoven after a brief stop along the way. As you know, when I arrived home I threw it in the first place I could, and fell asleep.

Diccionario Holandés I

Algunas palabras y frases útiles I:

Hallo --> Hola
Afscheid --> Adios
Alstublieft --> Por favor
Smakelijk --> Que aproveche
Dank u --> Gracias
Goedemorgen --> buenos dias
Tot ziens --> Nos vemos (formal)
Doei --> Nos vemos (informal)
Uit --> Salida

More Football

Hello again! It's Thursday, it's incredible how the days pass. I still have sip of beer I took yesterday, luckily I did not continue drinking.

Yesterday, as most of you should know, FC Barcelona and AC Milan, played the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Carmen is a very crazy follower of Barcelona so we went to see them play, and incidentally had a little beer. I had already tasted it bacause of one friend of Javi (I'm not telling his name) and liked it, but as I said before, I'm a bit silly because of it.

Where we went to see the match, an Irish tabern located in the center of Eindhoven, football is experienced enough (and there were no goals). There were people of many nationalities, and even some Spanish people like us, waiting to enjoy the game with their friends. I was surprised about the 5 or 6 shirts of Barcelona I could see, in the part of the tavern we were; there was another room, a little bigger and more crowded, where I could not count them.

As I said when I spoke of the Valencia game, here in Holland (as opposed to what happens with basketball), football has many fans, and we can see it in the representation in European football they have: "Orange" selection, is one of the biggers in Europe.As I am so little by now, and did not know, Carmen told me that FC Barcelona has always been very close to Holland in their squad and coaching staff. We suspect that the love that is here for the team FC Barcelona, was born with the legendary Cruyff (I do not know who he is), and has been maintaining for a number of players like Kluivert, De Boer brothers, Cocu ... or coaches like Van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard. Right now, Barcelona has another Dutch player: Ibrahim Afellay.

While I let it pass the effect of the beer I had yesterday, I'll think what story I can tell you tomorrow, and as I always quote my friend Garfield, here you are one of his famous sentences: "Another day ends. Another day without doing anything. Another perfect day".

Go Shopping

Good morning! Today I am a bit lazy, really. I woke up already sleepy and I wanted to do nothing. Well, quoting again my dear Garfield: "I'm not a slacker, I'm sedentary ... a slacker with class."

I imagine that almost everyone likes to go shopping, so I thing I'm going to talk a little about that. Although what I thought before coming to Eindhoven, shops are very similar to spanish ones (and what I see, is that they are the same everywhere), but prices may vary a little from shops in other countries. For example, what store can be found in a large shopping mall in the center of the city? Zara, of course. The funny thing is that I have not seen Inditex Group stores around here (by now), I'll keep you informed.

The brand name stores are also very present in the dutch cities, or at least in cities I have been. I've seen several known boutiques, shops like Boss and Tommy, and stores more common in all cities, such as Jack & Jones, H & M, C & A, Mango ...

One of the things that are different here than the way we go shopping in Spain, are the hours of go shopping. I find it a bit uncomfortable, because if I go buying some clothes during the week, I cannot stay lazing at home, I have to hurry. From Monday to Friday, shops are usually opened from 9:00 to 18:00, except supermarkets which usually close at 20:00 depending on the week. On Fridays, here are the days of shopping (I prefer all the days were days of shopping), and shops close later. On Saturdays, they also have continued open time until 18:00, and even many shops are opened on Sundays.

Sometimes I get stressed out a little when I go to buy a mouse toy for me to the pet store we can find next to our house (I've broken 4), because I know if I go after 18:00 during the week, I won't buy it.

Utrecht

¡Martes!

¡cómo me gusta esa ciudad!.

Utrecht

Tuesday! Today we have Champions with R. Madrid's match and tomorrow with Barcelona's match, great! Since Javi and I went to see the PSV Eindhoven - Valencia match, I enjoy football very much.

Yesterday, I left one story opened, so I'm going to end it now. On sunday, when we took the train in Haarlem to go back home, we decided to continue a little more our trip, so we took the train in Amsterdam, but we stopped at Utrecht.

The city was full of people and, in downtown, you could hardly walk. I liked the city very much; It is very modern near the station, and it is classic in downtown. Streets were full of people walking, the waterways were full of terraces both sides of them and there was a lot of people sitting there, having some drinks or sunbathing. There I was afraid of really losing myself.

Downtown was very lively. There was a little black kid dancing with the music in a little square, while people animated him. They were amazed at how well he did. I would like to dance with him; Carmen and Javi don't know that I dace very well, specially "Salsa".

I could see some friends of mine in some house windows at Utretcht, a black cat in one window, and a Siamese cat in another one. I like that city so much! We even saw a string quartet in the middle of a street, and also a UFO in the roof of a building; The truth is that you can find all kind of things, I don't mind to go back there one day.

When we arrived home, I layed on the floor because I couldn't arrive to the sofa, I was very exhausted.

Haarlem

Haarlem

Hi again! How was your weekend? Mine, was good; I had time for travel, play, and for rest too.

This Saturday, we made one of our trips. Carmen, Javi and me, went to Haarlem by train (it isn't the american city). It is a very nice and lively dutch city, with a lot of things to see. To reach this place from Eindhoven, you have to take a train to Amsterdam station and another train from there to Haarlem.

When we arrived Haarlem, it was crowded because there was a market in downtown. I was a little scared because, when there is too many people somewhere, I'm always afraid of loosing myself or that someone can take me away. Other thing that could happend is that I can be entertained with something and lose myself from Carmen and Javi, but I always try not to do that, even if it's hard for me.

I liked the city market, because the first "shop" I saw, was the one that sold pet things. When we looked up, we saw the beautiful church that was emplaced in that square, one called "Saint Bavon". It was so big but similar to others I've seen here in Holland.

After, we decided to take a walk for the little downtown streets, full of people and shops (some of them, known in Spain also). Suddenly, we saw a little shop in the distance, with a big spanish flag on its wall, so we decided to take a look. When we arrived near the shop, we realized that it was a little spanish shop and restaurant. You could buy all kind of spanish products: "Ibéricos", "Oliva's oil", wines... so we had lunch there. The waiter (he could be the owner too), was very kind with us, and he talked to us in spanish! Finally, I could eat spanish omelette, but it was a little different than the one I ate in Spain. Was then when I felt like Garfiled, I was completely full of food.

When we finished our lunch, we looked for a bar to take a coffee and take advantage of good weather.  Most terraces were full but we found one to go, near a big tower that can be seen from a lot of streets in the city. I drunk a little of coffee and that was the reason why I was crazy all day.

The last thing we had to do before going back to the station, was to visit an old windmill, that was placed beside a small waterway. I liked it very much and took some pictures of it, but I'm not in any photo. When we finished, we took tha train back and next...... it's another story!

¡Baloncesto!

Basketball

Good morning everyone! I love starting the mornings talking about sports... No, really not. I don't like to wake up early and I just like sports that can be played with balls. ¡I love so much to chase balls!, It should exist a sport which you only had to do that.

Specifying a little bit, I'm going to dedicate my today's story to basketball; that forgotten sport in a lot of countries and that sport which is in the background in the other ones. In Spain, I see it everytime I can, and there is always something to see because of the different competitions we have. It's different here in Holland because they have less tradition than in Spain.

When I arrived Holland, one of the things that I noticed, was that people here is so tall; they are taller than spanish people. When I'm walking on the street, I can see a lot of people very tall, and a lot of guys who exceed the 1,90 height. The first thing I thought was: They must play basketball so good! And the point is that they dont stand at this sport.

At a lower level than professional basketball, I saw a little more interest in this sport. Last week, (lucky me) I went to see one of the Javi's team matches. I realized that at the beggining of the match, all players lined up to shake their hands, and I don't remember they do this in Spain. That's called sportsmanship!

I dindn't enjoy that match at all (It was truely fun) because I found it very difficult not to jump into the court, and show everyone what I can do. That's why they call me LeBron! The only trouble I found is that I can't find my size jersey, and I like to wear it big, as a good basketball fan.

Now, I'm preparing to form a basketball team for cats, and we'll see if some generous person sponsors us and I can, finally, have my basketball kit.

Laser Tag

Laser Tag

Hi everybody! I'm back! I am recovering the habit of beginning the post with a cite of the master Garfield: It is difficult to be humble when you are the best.

Two weeks ago, Javi came away home after returning his job and Carmen and me stayed in home, that seems to me really strange. When he returned, I got to know that he was playing something called Laser Tag and, as I love all the games (above all if there is a laser in it...), I asked him if I could join the next time.

And, finally, yesterday was the day. After work, Javi told me that we were going to play Laser Tag. As I am so much time with Javi, I have realised that when he doesn't know anything, he search that in a thing called Google. I started to search and I learnt that is something similar to "paintball" (but I don't know what is paintball also) but without pain. In this game people are divided in two teams and the objective is shoot to the opponents. Besides, I read that there is a player that has made history: such a Barney Stinson.

Well, after informing, we went to the Laser Tag place; Javi in his bike and me in my tricycle. There, we joined with other people (I know some of them because they were in my party) and we splitted in two teams. Being honest, I played with advantage because I can see in the darkness and I am really fast, so I was a good player. There was only one problem, when I see a laser I have to follow it and that place was crowded of lasers! There was a moment in which I was dizzy because I change the laser that I was following really fast.

After so much running following lasers (me, Javi didn't make that) and shooting to the opponing team, Javi was exhausted (I could keep playing but Javi is a bit soft) and we decided return home. It was a funny exprience and I got the best score. When we arrived home, I realised that I was also tired and I decided to make other of my favorites things: sleep.

Bicycles everywhere

Hi again! Before telling you one story, I want to thank the people who follows my blog everyday, I'm glad you like my adventures.

As the most of you know, Holland is a very flat country, placed below sea level. It is because the absence of mountains, that movements by walk, car, taxi or by bus around the country are easier. In every cities of Holland, the main transport medium is the bike. We only have to take a look trough the window, and we'll se people passing ridding their bikes at any time.

One of the main advantages of those cities, is that all of them have a confortable bike lane, in both sides of the streets and avenues, and trips become easier. Those bike lanes, have also their own "crosswalks" and their own traffic lights. Other important thing is the respect that cars and pedestrians have for cyclists; it's usually to see a car stopped to let a bike pass.

When Carmen and I arrived Eindhoven, we searched for two bikes for us quickly, because Javi already had one. Here, people is very tall so it was difficult to find two bikes suitable for us; I had to buy a kid tricycle, but I have a lot of fun, biking with it wherever I go. Mice have never been so terrified!.

There are several ways to get a bicycle when you arrive Eindhoven (I supose it will be the same in other cities): They exist several websites for buying and selling second hand things, where you can find too many bikes (for adults and kids), for so reasonable prices. You can also rent bikes for days or you can buy them in shops you can find all over the city. There is one extrange and difficult way of having a bike that is winning it in something similar to the lottery you can play here; the prize is one bike. I see orange, white and green bicycles everywhere.

When I come back Spain, I'm thinking in sell my trycicle and use that money to buy candys or some toys for me.

Viajando

Feliz vuelo.

Traveling

New day! Today I'm very happy because Carmen will come back home. Javi told me that she comes by plane but I don't know where she will park the plane because there is not enough space in the terrace of the house...

Apparently, it is easy to travel by plane between two countries in spite of the departure and the destination cities will not be always the desired ones. Low-cost companies are growing in the airports around the world. If you travel with little luggage, a company like Ryanair is ideal: to travel from Spain to Eindhoven, we can choose some options, such as Madrid or Porto (in Portugal but really near to Galicia).

If you need to check-in the baggage, this kind of companies rise considerabily the cost of the ticket and, in this case, it is not so profitable. If you want to travel with pets, Ryanair is not an option for you: you can find this service in other companies like Vueling in which we, the cats, are hand luggage.

My exprience with the planes is not good by the way; they make a lot of noise and I am afraid of the possibility that they fall down and I don't have enough time to react and lose one of my seven lifes. When Carmen and me came to Eindhoven, we had to travel with Vueling from Vigo to Amsterdam, with one scale in Barcelona. It was really hefty; if you are lucky and the seat aside is empty, we can travel in that seat, but if not, we have to travel below the seat.

In the Vigo-Barcelona trip, we were lucky and I could travel near Carmen. I tried to be good and not nagging; I didn't meow anytime but the temperature was so hot and I had to travel half of the trip with the mouth opened; that seems to be very funny for the other people... Lucky me, in the Barcelona-Amsterdam trip, I was so tired and I fell asleep while I was under Carmen's seat.

When I arrived home I was exhausted but I needed to explore the new place and I forgot the fatigue.

Have a nice flight!

Música

Buenos días! Hoy me he levantado muy perezoso (qué raro, ¿eh?).

Music!

Good morning! Today I woke up really lazy (that`s strange, no? hehe). I woke up also to Javi with my comings and goings in my runs above the house. Then, I pretended innocence searching affection of Javi, I am unique!

I will tell you something about music: we always think that outside Spain (at least, I thought that) the music is really different, that we would not recognize any song and would not understand the singers. The reality that I have found here in Netherlands is different and instead of this fact is not extensible to all other countries, I think that could be apply in other countries.
Every time that I am walking the streets or in any place and I hear in the radio, it is sounding songs of Bruno Mars, Rihanna or other known artist for us. I want to remark also that here also vogue the song: “Ay si eu che pego!”. I couldn’t stop to laugh when I hear it first time here. Actually, when I hear that song, makes me want to put on two legs and move the hips.

But not all is so beautiful; I haven’t told you yet that I am really afraid of the music machine that there is in my home. It makes a terrible noises that Carmen calls basses and make my run really fast over the bed. Even after I need a lot of to time to leave my hiding place.

But, do you know where you can hear music always? In parties! Yesterday Javi and me organized a little party/dinner to some friends and I met new people. For that, I am really happy today. Greetings for all!
