El futuro

Solamente hay que darse una vuelta por Eindhoven, para darse cuenta de que es una ciudad moderna, a pesar del aire clásico que le dan las bicicletas. La mayoría de los edificios del centro, son de materiales metálicos, cristal, y de formas futuristas; a mí me gustaría más que construyesen un edificio con forma de ratón o de obillo de lana, pero nadie me ha preguntado.


Un ejemplo de edificio moderno, lo encontramos en uno de los diversos museos de la ciudad. A su arquitectura cúbica y de formas cuadradas, han añadido lo que parece ser una caseta de perro de color rosa (arte moderno, dicen); cuando paso por allí, siempre voy sigiloso por miedo a que un perro salga de ella y me persiga o me ataque. Todo el mundo sabe que los gatos no somos grandes amigos de los perros y, una caseta de ese tamaño no augura nada bueno.



Otra de las cosas que llaman la atención con un pequeño recorrido por el centro es que muchos de los edificios son propiedad de Phillips. Esta empresa parece haber contribuido enormemente al crecimiento y desarrollo de la ciudad; es fácil ver los carteles de letras azules por aquí y por allá, por no hablar de los grafittis y anuncios. 


Un gran ejemplo de la evolución de esta ciudad es el Evoluon; para quien no sepa lo que es o no lo haya visto nunca, es un edificio muy peculiar con forma de platillo volante. He de decir que cuando Carmen, Javi y yo fuimos a verlo, tuve mucho miedo al principio; a mí nadie me había explicado que aquello era un edificio, y realmente creí que los extraterrestres venían a abducirme y hacerme todo tipo de pruebas. Mucho se rieron los dos cuando vieron mi cara de susto con los ojos abiertos, las orejas para atrás y las ganas que tenía de salir corriendo. 

Pero volviendo a la historia y, a pesar de la imagen que el edificio da de moderno, muchos se sorprenderían si supieran que se construyó hace, nada menos que ¡50 años!; lo que es un claro ejemplo de la visión de evolución y desarrollo tecnológico que tenían los holandeses ya en aquellos tiempos.


Podría estar largo tiempo hablando de los muchos edificios modernos y, sin embargo con historia, de la ciudad de Eindhoven y podría enseñaros muchas fotos de ellos, pero lo cierto es que es domingo, aún estoy perezoso y estoy viendo mi ratoncito rojo por encima de la pantalla del ordenador; así que os dejo ya.

The future

Just you give a tour around Eindhoven, you realize that is a modern city, in spite of the classic appearance that the bikes give to that place. Most of the buildings of the downtown have metallic materials, glass and futuristic shapes; I would like that they construct a building with shape of mouse or a ball of yarn, but anyone ask me.

We find an example of modern building in one of the diverse museums of the city. Besides its cubic architecture and its squared shapes, they have added a thing that seems to be a pink doghouse (people call that “modern art”); I always step there quietly because I am afraid of the dog that could appear there and that could pursue and attack me. Everyone knows that we, the cats, are not good friends of the dogs and a doghouse of this size doesn’t bode anything good.

Giving a tour around Eindhoven, there are more things that draw attention. One of them is that a lot of buildings are property of Philips. This company has contributed hugely in the development and the growth of the city. It is easy to see the panels with the blue letters in a lot places, besides the ads and the graffiti.

A good example of the development of the city is the Evoluon; for the people that don’t know what is that or that haven’t seen it anytime, it is a peculiar building with UFO shape. I have to say that I was really afraid at the beginning when Carmen, Javi and me went to see the building; anyone had explained me what was this building and I thought that the aliens came to abduct me to make different testing with my body. Both, Carmen and Javi, smiled a lot when they saw my scare face, with the eyes completely open, the ears pointing backwards, and my win of scape running.

But returning to the story, and in spite of the modern appearance of the building, people would be surprised if they know that this building was constructed 50 years ago. This a clear example of the evolution vision and the technological development of the Dutch people in that moment.

I could be a lot of time talking about the modern building (but with an important history) of Eindhoven and I could show many photographs of them, but actually is Sunday, I am lazy and I am seeing my red mouse above the screen of the computer, so I leave you for the time being.
